What is Beaver Themer?
Beaver Themer is a plugin that we use regularly in order to help us build websites. The Beaver Themer allows us to do a range of different changes and additions, such as creating Site-Wide Headers & Footers and overriding almost all content that can be changed. For example, we use it for recreating Shop pages as it provides us with more control over what we can add to the page.
Why is Beaver Themer Useful?
Beaver Themer is rather useful as it provides us with the ability to override content using an interactive and helpful builder that usually would not be possible. The alternative way to change the content would be via PHP files. We typically use Beaver Themer for Headers, Footers, Shop Archives, Search Archives & 404 Archives. In some rare scenarios, we may use it for another reason specific to your website.
Guide on Beaver Themer
Step 1 - Creating an Override
Visit Themer Layouts under Beaver Builder and select Add New as seen here.
Step 2 - Creating an Override
A new interface will appear with some crucial options, enter a suitable Title. The Type is dependent on the task you're trying to achieve, almost always it'll use Themer Layout. Lastly, another important option is Layout, within this dropdown are a number of potential options, some are used for different tasks and overrides.
In our case, we'll override the Header, so we'll choose Header.
Step 3 - Creating an Override
After choosing Add Themer Layout, a new page will load called Edit Themer Layout. On the page, we have a number of options to choose from again, some more useful and required than others.
The options on the page can be seen here.
- Sticky - The option Sticky is not too relevant but in some cases, your website may be designed to have a Sticky menu
- Overlay - The option Overlay is sometimes used on websites, it'll be used to overlay content on the page, choosing this option allows you to pick a colour for the overlay colour.
- Location - Location is really important, this option should be set to the entire site unless you know the menu needs to be shown elsewhere or specifically on certain pages.
- Rules - The rules option is not used too frequently but can allow you to define different roles.
Once all options have been chosen, the Themer Layout can be saved. The next time you go to your website, you'll see the ability to edit the Header as seen here - just like other regular pages in Beaver Builder
