Opening up the Product Creation Interface

Login to your Administrator account, you should be viewing the dashboard by default once you've logged in successfully.

Look towards the left-hand sidebar and hover over Products and then choose the option Add New. Once loaded, you'll now be on the Product Creation interface. There are alternative ways to make products by accessing other areas or duplicating to speed up the process. However, in this article, we're starting with the basics.

Product Name

Choose a suitable Product Name, the product name can be found here.

It's good practice to keep this simple and to the point and not to clog the name with unnecessary information that's typically displayed elsewhere using better methods.

Good Example

Digital Zest

Bad Example

Digital Zest Product 1, category a, DZP1

Product Long Description & Product Short Description

Fill out the Product Long Description, the Product Long Description can be found here. The Long Description will go into depth about the product, for example, if the product is a card; It'll possibly state the size and other important key features of the card that the customer would be looking for.

Fill out the Product Short Description, the Product Short Description can be found further down the page as seen here, and as this is relevant and along the same lines of the Product Long Description I feel like it's necessary to keep these together in this guide. The Short Description is much less detailed and I would recommend that the Short Description doesn't go past a couple of sentences.

Product Data Tabs

Below includes all information relating to the Product Data Tabs which on the back-end of the website can be seen here. It's important that you've set the Product Data Tab dropdown to Simple Product.

General

Regular Price
Set the Regular Price for the product, we typically refer to this as the retail price based upon one single product rather than multiple.

Sale Price
The following information is not required during the Retail Product Creation. If you'd like to find more information about this section please take a look at our article under Product Creation - Everything You Need To Know

Additional Data
In some cases, based upon your products and our conversations you may have some custom added fields just beneath within the General section, where you can place the necessary information into each of these fields. As seen in my example, my extra field was Envelope, this could be the same, different, or many more.

Our Recommendations
Try to make sure that you don't place your Regular Price into Sale Price, we don't recommend that Sale Prices are added to Retail products as this will cause problems to Trade users.

Inventory

SKU
The SKU is required on our systems for a lot of functionality to work, it's a unique identifier that allows businesses to keep track of each product through.

Manage Stock
The Manage Stock checkbox allows you to choose whether you'd like to manage your stock levels on the website. Once this option is checked, you'll be greeted with an additional 3 Key Fields to complete.

Stock Quantity
This field is hidden by default but one Manage Stock is checked you'll see it. The Stock Quantity input field allows you to enter the amount of stock for this product.

Allow Back-ordersThis field is hidden by default but one Manage Stock is checked you'll see it. The Allow Backorders dropdown menu will allow you to choose whether or not you'd like customers to purchase even when the product is out of stock.

Low Stock Threshold
This field is hidden by default but one Manage Stock is checked you'll see it. The Low Stock Threshold input field allows you to enter an amount, once the stock level has reached this amount, you'll receive a notification through email. If you'd like to know how to change the email for this notification I recommend viewing our main article that covers everything you need to know during product creation.

Stock Status
If you wish to have the product stock simpler, then you can choose the Stock Status and place the product out of stock or on back-order.

Categories, Ranges & Occasions can be found on the right-hand side of the Product Creation Interface as seen here.

If you haven't created a Category, Range, or Occasion as of yet, I recommend checking out our articles which cover the creation of Categories, Ranges & Occasions. Once created these have some data, you'll begin to see information being listed underneath each area.

Tags

The Tags can be found on the right-hand side of the Product Creation interface as seen here.

Tags are a generic way of linking products without them being in the same categorisation. If Tags are being used on your website, this will allow customers to use search functionality much easier, showing the results that they search for. Tags are not required for Retail Product Creation but are highly recommended to be considered. If you'd like a more in-depth explanation please view our article that covers Tags.

There are important recommendations to make surrounding images, these are:

  • Make sure images are not too large, we highly recommend sticking to 900x900 where possible
  • Make sure images are RGB not CYMK.
